Alan pardews tenure at west ham , and what if he stayed?
I was listening to saturdays 606’s podcast earlier, and there was a scouse promoting idea of Alan Pardew coming in as a replacement for Brendan Rodgers.
It got me thinking about the season Eggy pulled the trigger on AP, and what would have happened if he gave the regime a longer period.
After getting us up (no easy feat in itself) the following season in the prem , was one of the most enjoyable I’ve had over west ham , looking back on paper the squad was not amazing , but he got us playing , Anton Ferdinand was shortlisted for young pfa player of the year!
Then come the slump , the baby Bentley brigade and all that, results dipped , and Pards went.
I know this is hypothetical , and no one as a crystal ball, but lets say that the Curbishley/Zola era was replaced with Pardew remaning at the helm , what would have been the outcome ?
What are you memories from that era , good and bad ..

Also if anyone reads into this being some kind of Billic Bashing . its not .

Pardews luck ran out, end of fred

Cor you're busy. But for what it is worth he would have kept us up for me. Curbs (for it his he) dropped us further in the shit with his dismal 10 game run and attempt to play players that weren't up to it (Quashie).

At that time we should have sacked the player not the manager but he'd broken the golden rule of man management so he had to go.

Pards will manage England one day, mark my words. He deserves it too. He was a novice manager with us he knows his business now.

Re: Alan pardews tenure at west ham , and what if he stayed?
Pardew has certainly developed as a manager, no doubt about that. So has that Monk bloke at Swansea. If you give manager's time and they know what they're doing then they will get results in the end.

To win at Arsenal and Liverpool takes skill not luck. Bilic knows what he needs to work on which won't be easy because he's under pressure to attack sides at home.

I still cannot believe we tonked Liverpool 3.0 but Newcastle will be a whole different game of tactics.

I would certainly take Pardew back if we didn't have a manager and I think he'd come but I'm backing Bilic because he's making history and I get the impression the players are enjoying it. Maybe why Nolan was allowed to go!!!

Re: Alan pardews tenure at west ham , and what if he stayed?
Yea Benny, Bilic should be given time, players looked bang up for it at Liverpool, whether that is the Nolan gone effect who knows?

I think it is, reckon he was stinking the place out and sometimes losing some is as good as an actual change.

As long as we try to play football and the board sign 3 o 4 good squad players I'll be happy and I reckon we'll finish 8th.

Same as what happened to Charlton probably.

To date, Pardew has had a good start in each managerial job and then tailed off.

It would definitely be interesting to see what/ how he could do over the longer term.

Re: Alan pardews tenure at west ham , and what if he stayed?
At Newcastle he got the contract and started something but then Ashley got cold feet.

It's like this, if BFS is lauded as our greatest these days, he should be be recognised for getting us up on a MASSIVE budget whilst giving us our longest every record without a win. That's in the SECOND division so a really bad blot on the copybook. Then he managed to get us boringly to 12th first season with a lot of money thrown at him...

You have to imagine what Pardew had to do to not only get us up with little money, but to get us to 9th in the Premier league, winning the most amount of points from being goal down ever, it's still unbeaten. And also whilst he's at it, get us to the fucking FA Cup Final.

Out of Pardew and OAFI know who I'd laud as our best manager ever.

God I agree with Johnson ... On football playing matters at least

....................We would have got relegated, still got done over Tevez & half the players wives would have been up the duff

Otherwise much the same

Preferred his style to Cubishleys, or any of his successers though (excluding Bilic)

The manager that shouldn't have been sacked at the time though, was Redknapp

It went badly wrong for Pardew, I remember the 4-0 at Bolton and it was time for him to go.

Still proving his critics wrong.

I was at the Bolton 4-0

Remember doing the conga as we were 4 down

There was fuck all else to do!

Re: Alan pardews tenure at west ham , and what if he stayed?
His second year in the championship was one of my favourite years ever following us, barely missed a game home away. Will always be grateful to him for that year, the play offs and the first year back up.

Think he's a bit of a cock but could probably say that about most managers.

DB1983 10:10 Mon Aug 31
Re: Alan pardews tenure at west ham , and what if he stayed?
We would have been relegated that season if Pardew had stayed. That Bolton away game in the pissing rain is one of the worst performances I've ever seen. Abject displays all round from a team that clearly didn't want to play for the manager.

I'll always love him for the FA cup final and that first season back in the prem, but he had to go when he did. Seems to be doing well at Palace but he's very good at riding the crest of a wave and harnessing positivity, be interesting to see how they do if they go on a bad run.

Sven Roeder 10:25 Mon Aug 31
Re: Alan pardews tenure at west ham , and what if he stayed?
Not sure what ifs are all that useful but Pardew has certainly ended up in the right place and Palace seem on the up.
Was surprised when others were surprised that he would give up the madhouse of Newcastle for life at Palace.
Somewhere where they love him and seem to have realistic expectations.

What if Lyall or Greenwood stayed !!!

Re: Alan pardews tenure at west ham , and what if he stayed?
I will always love his time at West Ham mostly for promotion and a FA Cup final .... And the little matter of getting 33-1 on him becoming manager and winning more than a grand ... Due to WHO watching Paddy Power odds!!!!
